Free online program helps people manage depression, anxiety
Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Nova Scotians 16+, Tranquility is an online service that offers educational modules to help reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression. The program uses internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT) and has been proven effective for treating anxiety and depression. Participants keep a journal of their responses to situations and events and practice new skills through educational modules, interactive tools and one-on-one coaching over messaging, phone or video.
Providing better mental healthcare means offering help that is readily available when and where people need it. Many of us will experience some depression or anxiety in our lives. Having resources at our fingertips to help us manage in the early stages will help promote mental wellness and keep people healthy. I’m happy to be able to bring this made-in-Nova-Scotia program to people across the province.
- Brian Comer, Minister responsible for the Office of Addictions and Mental Health.
The program was co-created by a Nova Scotian, Joel Muise, who experienced social anxiety and wanted to provide people with more options for care. It was developed at Volta Labs, a Halifax-based innovation hub, with input from clinical psychologists, and people who have experienced depression and anxiety.
